Robbery Suspect Arrested

Marque Deandre Baines, 27, the suspect in a November 2006 armed robbery of the Krystal Restaurant in Troy was arrested Wednesday morning in Wedgefield, South Carolina. The US Marshal's Service and the Sumter County S.C. Sheriff's Office arrested Baines according to information released by Troy Chief Anthony Everage. Troy Police responded to an armed robbery at the Krystal Restaurant at approximately 4:00 a.m. November 6, 2006 on US Highway 231. A black male suspect entered the business armed with a handgun and demanded money from the cahier. The suspect fled the scene on foot. A subsequent investigation led to the positive identification of Baines as the suspect in the armed robbery. A warrant for robbery first degree was obtained on Baines and his bond was set at $50,000.00. A local search for Baines came up negative. It was believed that he fled the State of Alabama. In November 2007 Troy Police received information that Baines was in Sumter, South Carolina. TPD Detectives contacted Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Sheriff's Office and advised them of this information. The US Marshal's Service was notified on January 4, 2008 about Baines being in South Carolina. On Wednesday morning (Jan. 9) the US Marshal's Service and the Sumter County S.C. Sheriff's Office raided a residence on Sally Street in Wedgefield, South Carolina and arrested Baines. A stolen .44 magnum handgun, 2 SKS assault rifles with 100 round drums (ammunition), ammunition clips, 2 shotguns, and an undetermined amount of what is believed to be crack cocaine and marijuana was located in the residence where Baines was taken into custody. This information was turned over to the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms where federal gun charges will be pursued. Officers from the Troy Police Department will go to South Carolina to get Baines and return him to Troy after extradition proceedings have been completed.
