Giving False Name

January 25, 2008

Troy Police arrested Eric Bruce Stewart, 48, from Troy Friday morning for giving a false name to a police officer according to information released by Chief Anthony Everage.

Police observed a black male subject under the bridge on Elm Street next to the police department. He was attempting to conceal himself behind a pillar under the bridge according to police reports.

Stewart initially gave police a false name attempting to conceal his true identity from police.

The officer directed Stewart to approach his patrol car and he fled the scene on foot. He was later taken into custody a short distance from the scene.

A subsequent investigation revealed evidence found at the scene under the bridge on Elm Street where the TPD officer observed Stewart. The evidence is connected to the recent breaking and entering a motor vehicle and a residential burglary in Troy.

A warrant for receiving stolen property has been obtained by Troy Police in connection with Stewart's involvement in these crimes. He has also been charged with giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.

TPD also learned that Stewart is wanted in Escambia County, Alabama for probation violation.

He was transported to the Pike County Jail Friday. His bond has been set at $7,500.00.
