Troy Police responded to a shooting Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:00 p.m. on North Three Notch Street near Ingram's Curb Market in Troy according to information released by Chief Anthony Everage. Doris Lanae Hawthorne, a 38-year-old black female was shot one time in the lower back. Ms. Hawthorne is a resident from Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The incident occurred when an altercation between a 23-year-old and a 24-year-old black males in the parking lot on the side of Ingram's near North Three Notch Street when both men allegedly exchanged gunfire. Hawthorne was caught in the crossfire of the two suspects. The 24-year-old suspect was riding in a maroon 2008 Nissan Altima also occupied by a two-year-old child. The second suspect was walking on Norh Three Notch Street when the altercation occurred. Evidence in connection with this incident has been collected by Troy Police. The 23-year-old suspect is currently in custody at the Troy City Jail. Police continue to actively investigate this case. Hawthorne was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center by Care Ambulance. The victim was treated for gunshot wound to the lower back at TRMC Emergency Room and was later airlifted to Baptist-South Hospital in Montgomery.
