Attempted Murder

Troy Police arrested 44-year-old black female Martha Ann Johnson from Troy in connection with the Saturday night shooting of 71-year-old Clifford Berry at her residence on the Elba Highway in Troy according to information released by Chief Anthony Everage.

TPD was notified by the Troy Regional Medical Center Emergency Room at approximately 11:00 pm Saturday night of a gunshot victim needing treatment. That person was Berry and he told police he had been shot by Martha Johnson. Berry was later transferred to the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.

Berry and Johnson have been in a dating relationship for some time and are both from Troy near the Springhill area.

Johnson was placed in the Troy City Jail at approximately 4:00 am Sunday and was later transferred to the Pike County Jail at 12:50 pm.

A warrant was signed and issued for Johnson's arrest Sunday. She has been charged with attempted murder in this case. Her bond has been set at $75,000.00.

Troy Police continue to investigate this case.
